Biography

Christina has been a news anchor, broadcast and print journalist, assistant editor in publishing firms, freelance radio deejay, writer and columnist, communications officer for a conservation organisation, interviewer, voice-over artist, short story and creative nonfiction writer, and lecturer.

Joining Swinburne in 2003, Christina won the Swinburne Alumni Teaching Excellence Award in 2011, the Vice-Chancellor’s Sustainability Award in 2021, and the team Vice-Chancellor’s One Swinburne Award in 2022. Christina has been at the helm of the Swinburne Inter-School Debating Championship since its inception in 2006 and is an active advisor for the Debaters’ and Green clubs, the Hult Prize OnCampus Program as well as the founder of the Swinburne Sarawak Creative Writing Community. She holds weekly creative writing sessions with interested students and alumni throughout the year in addition to co-organising annual poetry and creative writing, debate, public speaking, and conservation events, competitions, and workshops such as the Green Microfiction Challenge and the Run for the Wild.

Completing her PhD in English at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia in 2020, Christina’s thesis Creative Nonfiction: True Stories of People involved in Fifty Years of Conservation of the Orang-utan in Sarawak, Malaysia combined her two passions: conservation and creative nonfiction writing. Eleven of the 34 creative nonfiction pieces that formed her thesis’s creative artefact were published during the course of her studies.

In 2021, Christina’s short story A 22nd Century Au Pair was selected and published in The Best Asian Short Stories 2021 by Kitaab International, Singapore.

Creative Nonfiction, Creative Writing, Narrative Inquiry, student motivation, e-learning, blogs and discussion forums.
