KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus once again made a name for itself when its lecturers, Dr Choo Chung Siung and Dr Jee Teck Weng was awarded the International Convention Scholarship Award (ICSA) at the Anak Sarawak Award Ceremony that took place in conjunction with the Business Events Tribal Assembly (TriBE) 2021 held on November 26.
According to Dr Jee, the recognition makes him more determined to bring pride to Sarawak especially in the education sector and he thanked the organiser for the recognitions. A senior lecturer with the Faculty of Business, Arts and Design at the university, he presented a paper at the 4th International Tourism and Hospitality management Congress (ITHMC 2018) in Budapest, Hungary. Dr Jee’s area of expertise is in advertising, branding entrepreneurship and cross-cultural studies, among others.
A senior lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, Choo Chung Siung’s special interest in 3-dimensional modelling of complex geotechnical problems involving soil-structure interactions opened the doors of opportunity for him to attend and present at the 16th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (16ARC) in Taipei, Taiwan.
Apart from the senior academics, a graduate of the university also won himself a trip to the 4th Augmented World Expo (AWE) held in Munich, Germany in 2019. Lim Jim Hong, a civil engineering graduate formed connections with industry leaders in smart cities solutions during the two-day event. Lim is a director at ARx Media Sdn Bhd, a full-stacked technology solution company based in Kuching.
As the recipients of ICSA 2018/2019, they are awarded in recognition of their achievements and to encourage the participation of locals and individuals in attending international conventions while also showcasing the benefits and opportunities from networking formed during these conventions.
Winners of ICSA are selected based on the quality of their submissions, the feasibility of conference rotation and programmes, and a strong display of passion and dedication to their field of work.
Recipients were presented with a certificate by YB Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yiew, Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Sarawak. The award enables recipients to attend an international convention of their choice and is valued at RM10,000 covering travel, accommodation, association membership and convention registration fees.
An initiative of the Sarawak Convention Bureau, the award aims to bring prestige to Sarawak nationally and internationally in the sectors of the economy, education, facilities, and recreation.
