KUCHING – A panel of four renowned entrepreneurs from Malaysia and Singapore will discuss corporate challenges at a forum organised by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus on Monday 26 October.
The “Lessons from the entrepreneur” forum will see Bloomberg TV Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Effendi Norwawi, Instacom Group Bhd Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Anne Kung Soo Ching, Serial System Ltd Executive Chairman and Group CEO Dato’ Seri Dr Derek Goh, and Barry Lim Sun Heng of Penang-based Melolisa Foundation share their thoughts and experience with students from Swinburne Sarawak and guests.
A full capacity crowd is expected at the university’s 350-seat lecture theatre where the event will be held.
Swinburne University of Technology Chancellor Graham Goldsmith from Australia will moderate the forum. Goldsmith is highly respected in the Australian financial services industry and an experienced company director as well as a community leader with a deep commitment to education.
The panelists, who will take questions from members of the audience, are some of the most accomplished entrepreneurs. Effendi founded Encorp Bhd in 2000 and listed the company on the Main Board of the KLSE. He was the winner of the Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award in conjunction with Enterprise Asia’s Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2012.
A recipient of the Brand Laureate Award for The Most Eminent Brand Iconic Leadership Category, Effendi also won the HR leader of the Year Award (Silver) in conjunction with the Malaysia HR Awards 2011.
Anne Kung, the 2013 Sarawak State Entrepreneur of the Year Award recipient, is a chartered accountant and obtained her qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. She also has a law degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London.
Kung currently heads Instacom Group Bhd, a telecommunication infrastructure contractor listed on Bursa Malaysia.
Derek Goh from Singapore founded his company as a sole proprietorship in 1988. Serial System Ltd is now a leading semiconductors/components distributor of active and passive components to original equipment manufacturers and sub-contracting businesses in the Asia Pacific region.
Swinburne alumnus Barry Lim created Melolisa Foundation which his family funds, among others, students of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. Lim, who prides himself as an inventor and innovator, has more than 40 years’ experience in business and agriculture technologies.
