International seminar deepens understanding of cross-border e-commerce under RCEP

KUCHING – An international seminar on the development of cross-border e-commerce under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) was successfully held on 27 March 2023.

The seminar was jointly organised by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages, Sarawak E-Commerce Association (SECA) and Shaoxing Municipal Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

Held via video conference on Zoom, the seminar was attended by participants from various institutions, including SECA, Shaoxing Municipal Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Alibaba Overseas Business Division, Wenzhou Vocational and Technical College and Pute Education Consulting Company.

The seminar was presided over by Professor Shanjing Jiang, Dean and Secretary of the School of International Studies at Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages, and Mr Chew Heo Lee, President of SECA.

Leaders from the organising institutions delivered speeches during the event, including Professor Jinling Ge, Vice President of Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Language; Datuk Philip Ting Ding Ing, Deputy President of Sarawak Business Federation (SBF); Mr Jianwen Wang, Vice Chairman of the Shaoxing Municipal Council for the Promotion of International Trade; Mr Chew Heo Lee; Ir Professor Lau Hieng Ho, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Swinburne Sarawak and Mr Diyang Feng, Chairman of Pute Education Consulting Company. 

One of the main topics of the seminar was ‘The Leading Wholesale Market of Global Trade – Alibaba International Station’ presented by Mr Changrong Su, Alibaba Overseas Business Division Manager for Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and India, who shared insights on the development of the platform.

Another topic included in the seminar was ‘The Sustainable Development of Cross-Border E-Commerce: Opportunities and Challenges’, which was presented by Dr Gabriel Wee Wei En from Swinburne Sarawak’s Faculty of Business, Design and Arts.

In addition, ‘New Ideas for Cross-Border E-Commerce Websites’ was delivered by Associate Professor Jianhui Zhang from Wenzhou Vocational and Technical College.

The seminar ended with a lively discussion and exchange of ideas among the participants. The successful conclusion of the seminar not only deepened the understanding of the development of cross-border e-commerce under the RCEP but also provided valuable insights and ideas for the future development of the industry.
