KUCHING – Swinburne’s students and members of the public eager to gain real-world industry insights in business, design, ICT, engineering and science are invited to attend the Swinburne’s Career Forum this 23 March 2019.
Themed ‘Preparing for Jobs of the Future’, the Career Forum will be held in conjunction with Swinburne’s Open Day happening on 23 and 24 March. The forum will be held from 1.30 to 4.30pm at the Lecture Theatre, Swinburne’s Sarawak campus. Admission is free and interested individuals are required to pre-register online via /openday/.
At the forum, the panellists will address the workforce needs of the future, as well as educate students about the fields of work, desirable graduate attributes and the future of work. There will also be a Q&A session with the speakers where attendees can take the chance to ask questions or obtain useful career-related tips.
The Career Forum will feature nine speakers namely Alaister Maiyor, Head Discipline and Project Engineering of Sarawak Shell Berhad; Jayaram Gopinath, General Manager of Blaze Digital; Joyce Kau, Head of Marketing of JobStreet.com Malaysia; Victor Gan, City Manager of GRAB Malaysia; and Dr Mahaletchumy Arujanan, Executive Director of Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre.
Other speakers include Rossnan Cheong, Head of Marketing of VIU Malaysia; Hussin Khan, CEO and Master Trainer of EFXCo Sdn Bhd; Dave Ramana, Head of APAC IT Service Delivery of Electrolux Group); and Zubair Juzar, Business Development – LNG Shipping of MISC Bhd.
Armed with more than 29-year experience in the oil and gas industry, Alaister has vast experience in instrumentation; operations technical support; integrated planning; health, safety, security and environment; and cost engineering. At 19, Jayaram began his journey in Astro Radio and at a later stage of his career, he jointly created Blaze Digital in 2017, a digital first marketing solutions provider within Astro. He now focuses on new technology development and commercial opportunity for clients and advertisers.
As the Head of Marketing of JobStreet.com Malaysia, Kau has 14-year experience in financial products and services, international trade, telecommunication, hospitality, recruitment and human resource management and other industries. She now leads a group of five who looks into hirers marketing, candidate marketing, digital and campaign performances, campus marketing, public relations and social media.
A Swinburne accounting graduate, Gan started his career with Ernst & Young Kuching office as an audit associate and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant (Malaysia) and a full member of CPA Australia. He also served as Group Accountant with Brooke Asia Ltd and as a Strategy Analyst for Brooke Renewables before joining GRAB Malaysia in 2018.
Dr Mahaletchumy was listed in World’s 100 Most Influential People in Biotechnology by Scientific American Worldview in 2015 and is listed in the honorific list of Women in Biotechnology Law and Regulation, Biotechnology Law Report 2015. She also sits on the Selangor Bio Advisory Council and is on the advisory board for Farming Future Bangladesh and Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation for women.
From investment banking to TV productions, Cheong focuses on using technology to lead in acquiring new customers while taking brands into the future. Using the structure and goal oriented approach from the financial sector and bringing it into the content creation space, he brings a new perspective on how to market TV dramas for the internet connected world through brand and high impact ROI driven marketing.
Hussin, the former Head of Education at award winning studio Rhythm & Hues, specialises in animation, games, VR and VFX. He has experience working on movies such as ‘The Beyond’ (2018) and ‘Origin Unknown’, a sci-fi thriller. With experience in IT, R&D, business development and project management that span over 18 years, Dave is an accomplished, result-driven IT Infrastructure and Global Data Centre Operations professional. As a skilled, hands-on technologist, he has demonstrated success in optimising bottom line productivity.
In his early career days, Zubair was an Instrument Engineer working on various global projects. During the last seven years, he has worked in a number of technical, project management, sales and business development roles within the onshore and offshore oil and gas sector. Zubair is an electrical and computer systems engineer by qualification and a Corporate Member certified by the Institute of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM).
The Career Forum will be moderated by Swinburne’s Head of School of Business Associate Professor Lim Weng Marc and attended by Swinburne’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer Professor John Wilson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Ir. Professor Lau Hieng Ho, staff and students.
