KUCHING – The Consul General from the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Marilyn Perring, paid a courtesy call to the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Professor Ken Heskin, recently.
Perring was accompanied on her visit by Datuk Dr Philip Ting who is the Australian Honorary Consul as well as a member of the Swinburne Sarawak university council and director of the university.
She also met the executive group of the university, and discussed matters such as research at Swinburne Sarawak, curriculum of the programs offered, student exchange programs and accommodation as well as the development of the campus.
“I’m actually very impressed with the dynamic matrix of the university. It’s populated with lots of students from all over the world. Fifty-two countries represented in the students, and I think that’s pretty impressive,” said Perring.
“The staff are very dynamic and are very interested in their work and enjoying their time here,” said Perring, who took up her position in February this year. She will be based in Kuala Lumpur for three years.
“The fact that it (the university) had 10 years’ establishment looks like it’s really part of the architecture, part of the city completely, which is good.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here visiting, seeing the labs and talking to the staff, and I hope it (Swinburne Sarawak) grows from strength to strength.”
She said the purpose of her two-day visit to Kuching was to get to know and build rapport with the relevant government departments.
