KUCHING – PhD candidate Shirleen Lo Lee Yuen received the Industry Research Collaboration Grant (Techno-Eco SEDC) from the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation Energy Sdn Bhd. Valued at RM20,000, the grant is in support of Shirleen’s research titled “Techno-Economic Feasibility Study for the Development of Hydrogen Production Plant in Kuching”.
Shirleen will present a final report on the techno-economic feasibility of the centralised Hydrogen Production Plant in Kuching. The report will provide understanding of the opportunities and risks embedded in the project to all stakeholders. It will also provide important insights to facilitate investments required at a later stage towards realising Sarawak’s strategic initiative towards a green economy.
The project aligns with Swinburne’s Moon Shot 1 where every Swinburne learner gets a work experience. Under the guidance of Project Leaders Dr How Bing Shen and Assoc Prof Jaka Sunarso, Shirleen obtained valuable opportunity to closely work with SEDC Energy and its partners to solve real-world problems. This contributes immensely to her post-PhD career.
Swinburne’s’ expertise in techno-economic analysis also showcased the University’s Moon Shot 3 of providing partners with tech solutions. In this project, Swinburne’s expertise was used to assist SEDC Energy in determining the technology and particular process that would best fit local scenario, the economic performance values for the chosen investment decisions, and the effects of the project parameters towards the economic outcomes. These give an essential framework from which can better inform our industry partner in their decision-making processes.
