University director among recipients of Golden Jubilee Medal

KUCHING – A senior officer from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus was among 335 individuals who were awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal by the Sarawak government, recently.

Datu Dr Haji Julaihi Haji Bujang, who is director of the university’s Government and External Liaison Unit, was presented with the award by Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu at the State Legislative Assembly Building in Petra Jaya, Kuching.

The presentation of the award was held in conjunction with the anniversary of Sarawak’s 50th independence within the Federation of Malaysia. Sarawak, Sabah, Singapore and Malaya came together to form Malaysia, in September 1963.

The award acknowledges the contribution of the recipients to the state’s economic, social and political development from various sectors, such as public service, sports, arts and culture.

Prior to joining the Australian university branch campus in February 2012, Datu Dr Julaihi was Director of the Curriculum Development Division, Ministry of Education, in Putrajaya.

He also served as Director of Education at the Sarawak Education Department from 2007 to 2010. He was the Deputy Director from 2006 to 2007.

Datu Dr Julaihi obtained his doctorate from Monash University, Australia in 1999 and bachelor’s degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

The Miri-born is no stranger to awards, having received the Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (Service Excellence Award) in 1990, 2002 and 2005.
