Swinburne takes part in 48th State Level Teachers’ Day celebration in Sri Aman

SRI AMAN  Swinburne was invited to participate in a two-day education exhibition held in conjunction with the 48th State Level Teachers’ Day 2019 celebration in Sri Aman recently.

The exhibition that took place at the Eden Restaurant was officiated by Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang and also attended by Sarawak Education Department Director Dr Haji Azhar Haji Ahmad. This year’s celebration was themed ‘Guru Obor Hemah Menyinari Pertiwi’ and it commemorated teachers as drivers of transformation in education.

Among the activities lined up during the exhibition were product display booths, musical performances and poem recitations. Various government and private agencies such as Yayasan Sarawak, Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (TEGAS) and other institutions of higher learning, banks and schools around Sri Aman participated in the event.

At the event, Swinburne’s multimedia design lecturer John Hii introduced the university’s design programmes and showcased ‘Kuching VR’ to the students of SMK Lingga, SMK St Luke, SMK Simanggang, SMK Sri Aman, and SMK Melugu.

The 360-degree virtual reality application lets users experience Sarawak’s landmarks and tourists’ attractions in addition to the Swinburne’s city campus. The app was developed by Trifold Enterprise, a start-up company comprising graduates from Swinburne’s Bachelor of Design programme.

Swinburne’s School of Design and Arts offers a world-renowned Bachelor of Design programme majoring in Multimedia Design. The three-year course is ranked Top 40 in the world for Art and Design by the 2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject. The university works closely with a Course Advisory Panel and has maintained long-standing partnerships with organisations such as Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Nokia and Microsoft to give students the opportunity to build their real-world hands-on skills.
