KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus has appointed the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) as an advisor for its Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Design) program.
This was formalised with the signing of an agreement by Tang Mun Wai, manager from the Digital Enablement Department of MDeC, and Dr Lee Miin Huui, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Business and Design of Swinburne Sarawak, in Kuching recently.
MDeC, based in Cyberjaya in Selangor, directs and oversees Malaysia’s ICT initiative, the MSC Malaysia.
“At Swinburne Sarawak, we ensure that not only are our courses relevant to the needs of industry but also set the standard for industry. To do this, we constantly engage with companies near and far to maintain the high quality of our courses,” said Lee.
“We are certainly honoured that MDeC has come on board as an advisor for our multimedia design program. As the driver of ICT in the country, it brings with it an array of expertise in the field and our students will benefit tremendously from its involvement in the program especially in the area of creative mobile content design and development,” she said.
Tang will sit on the advisory committee to assist the faculty in providing in-demand, industry-relevant teaching and research programs in multimedia apps design.
In a related development, Swinburne Sarawak and MDeC jointly held a five-day workshop under the Integrated Content Development Programme (ICON) initiative with the aim of producing local apps developers and technopreneurs.
Conducted at the university, the focus of the workshop was to create iOS 7 Apps and games for iPad and iPhone as well as other creative mobile content.
The workshop was funded by MDeC and the participants, who comprised alumni and staff from the university, were given an Apple Developer account worth RM299 to deploy their apps.
Tang, who is also the ICON-MDeC manager, was impressed by some of the creative and innovative ideas that were presented by the participants.
The participants are required to submit their first app within three months after the workshop.
