KUCHING – Nine Swinburne degree students made the university community proud when they received their excellent ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) examination results last week.
The students are currently pursuing their second and third year degree majoring in accounting, and accounting and finance programmes. They sat for their SBL (Strategic Business Leader) examination in March, less than two weeks before the Movement Control Order (MCO) was imposed nationwide. The pass rate achieved was 67%, surpassing the ACCA world pass rate of 47%.
The results came as no surprise as over the past three years, Swinburne has consistently achieved pass rates that surpassed the ACCA world pass rates.
“It was not an easy task, especially when many people were starting to become very worried about the COVID-19 pandemic at that time,” said Course Director for Professional Courses Dr Fung Chorng Yuan.
“Our colleagues worked to help alleviate students’ worries and at the same time, relentlessly motivated our students to work hard to prepare for the March examination. All these efforts finally paid off,” added Dr Fung.
In view of the current MCO, all Swinburne ACCA courses are conducted via online learning platforms for course content delivery and live classroom sessions. Dr Fung commented that ACCA students are fully supported by full-time academic staffs not only through live classrooms but also live chat.
“No one is left out in our courses. These live sessions are also recorded and uploaded to our learning management system after the end of each session for students to review and watch at a later time in case they’ve missed certain parts of the live session,” explained Dr Fung.
At Swinburne, the key feature of the ACCA course is the great study support provided by the lecturers. This is particularly crucial during a period where face-to-face classes are currently suspended.
At the Swinburne’s Sarawak campus, second and final-year students majoring in Accounting or Accounting and Finance are eligible to join the ACCA Accelerate Programme. The programme allows eligible students to sit for the last four ACCA Professional Level examination papers after completing their first year of study. It provides a fast track for students to get their degree and a professional qualification at the same time.
Upon completing their SPM or UEC examinations, school leavers can opt to pursue their higher education by enrolling into Swinburne’s one-year Foundation in Business course that leads to undergraduate majors in accounting, finance, accounting and finance (double major), human resource management, international business, marketing, management, or management and digital media (double major).
Swinburne’s business courses are carefully monitored for their academic quality, career relevance, and compliance with Malaysian and Australian qualifications standards. They are not only accredited and recognised by ACCA but also CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
Swinburne has two major intakes for ACCA courses. The next intake will be in July and the closing date for application is the last week of June. For enquiries, chat through WhatsApp at 013-886 8353 or email study@swinburne.edu.my.
