Head of business school recognised for higher education leadership

KUCHING – Swinburne’s Head of School of Business, Faculty of Business, Design and Arts Associate Professor Dr Lim Weng Marc was recently awarded the prestigious Higher Education Leadership Award (HELA) from Venus International Foundation Centre for Leadership Development.

The award, which consists of a certificate and a memento, was presented by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees at the Foundation’s 2019 Higher Education Leadership Meet held in January at Le Royal Meridien, Chennai, India.

The annual meeting brings together chancellors, deans, directors, chairs, and heads of higher education institutions around the world to discuss higher education policies and practices, as well as to recognise the efforts of higher education leaders who have had a profound impact in higher education leadership.

Dr Lim’s nomination for the award was proposed by the Foundation’s expert committee and endorsed by the Foundation’s apex committee in recognition of his work in developing and improving the learning, teaching and research culture at Swinburne’s Sarawak.

Under Dr Lim’s leadership, the business school has contributed to a myriad of high level international discussions on business education and socio-economic policies such as at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s meeting on entrepreneurship education and the World Economic Forum’s ASEAN meeting. They have also published in numerous top tier business journals such as the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Industrial Marketing Management, International Journal of Manpower, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Tourism Management Perspectives, and Education + Training, among others.

“The award is truly a validation of the intellectual capital, hard work and dedication that my colleagues at the School of Business have invested in delivering engaging and rewarding future-ready learning experiences for our students. Furthermore, we continue to engage with the government and industry to produce innovative and rigorous research with impact.”

“My colleagues are, therefore, an indispensable part of making this (award) happen. I assure that the School of Business, under my leadership, will continue to develop as an innovative enterprise that devotes its best efforts to offer excellent service to our students, partners and the extended community,” said Dr Lim.
