KUCHING – Professor Janet Gregory is the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.
She officially took office on 4 July, replacing fellow Australian Professor Anthony Cahalan who has served as the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive since January 2013.
Early this year, Cahalan was elevated to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer.
Prior to her current posting, Gregory, who has a PhD from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, was the Professor of Learning Innovations in the Learning Transformations Unit at Swinburne.
As the Professor, she led initiatives for changing practices in the design and delivery of courses to enhance quality through the provision of more innovative and engaging learning experiences for students.
She also led the development of a fully online Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching which has enabled staff from all campuses to participate in professional development and achieve qualifications in learning and teaching.
Gregory has extensive experience as an academic and manager within the university and has worked as a lecturer and senior lecturer in its Faculty of Business and Enterprise.
She was Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Higher Education at the university’s Lilydale campus in Melbourne and was instrumental in the development and delivery of courses within a multi-disciplinary campus.
She was also the Professor of Education Quality and Innovations in Swinburne Professional Learning.
Gregory, who started her career in social work, contributed to the business approach of the faculty ensuring diversification of products and rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure students were well supported in achieving their learning outcomes.

Under Cahalan’s leadership, Swinburne Sarawak saw significant improvements in research outcomes, and for the third year it was awarded an Excellent: Tier 5 rating in the Malaysian Qualifications Agency’s Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions.
Cahalan will take up a new appointment in the Middle East. The university recently hosted a dinner to bid him farewell at a leading hotel.
