KUCHING -Students at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus will have the rare opportunity of meeting with and learning from some of the most successful entrepreneurs from Malaysia and Singapore on campus from 29 September to 4 October.
Dubbed “Entrepreneur Week”, the event will see the personalities like Encorp Berhad executive chairman Dato Sri Effendi Bin Norwawi and Singapore’s Serial System Limited executive chairman and CEO Dr Derek Goh sharing their experience and knowledge with students.
They will speak on a range of topics both students and business owners will find beneficial. Effendi, for instance, will talk about how he started in his career, offer advice from the perspective of an employer including career preparation and what employers look for in the 21st century, among other things.
As a sole proprietor of Serial System Limited, Goh listed his electronic components distribution company on the Singapore Stock Exchange two decades after its establishment, and later on the Main Board. At his session he will elaborate how he managed this feat.
John Jong, a Sarawakian making his mark at the forefront of the branding scene in Kuala Lumpur and Southeast Asia, will provide insights from the perspective of a consultancy. The managing director and chief creative officer of Thinkscape, he will show how one can awaken the creative giant within.
Barry Lim, an entrepreneur Penang, will touch on topics such as managing people and organisational behaviour, attitudes, motivation, leadership and morale within technical teams, and the like.
Developing a business plan, generating a business opportunity idea for a product and/or service, basic legal concepts including contract, business structure protocols and laws, intellectual property and its protection, professional and criminal liability will be the focus of WTS Konsultant Sdn Bhd consulting engineer Ir. Sr. Alex Ting.
A number of institutions of higher learning and chambers of commerce have been invited to the event.
