Connections Flourish at Swinburne’s 2nd FECS Alumni Coffee Talk

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science (FECS) held its Alumni Coffee Talk recently. The annual vent was an exhilarating celebration of networking and knowledge-sharing that unites a vibrant mix of graduates, industry leaders and current students. 

The highlight of the event included powerful insights from the event’s distinguished speakers. Ir. Ts. Wong Ha Hui, Managing Director of Bakun Sejati Sdn Bhd, captivated the audience with experiences from his high-profile projects in the energy sector; Jimsley Lim, the Director of ARx Media Sdn Bhd, shared his inspiring journey from civil engineering to leading a pioneering IT company specializing in AR/VR technologies while Darrell Nadeng Dominic, Director of PhytoTech Bioscience Malaysia and a Swinburne Sarawak alumnus, emphasized the critical importance of sustainability and innovation in biotechnology.

“We are thrilled with the turnout and the high-calibre discussions at this year’s Alumni Coffee Talk,” said Ir. Dr Elaine Yeu Yee Lee, organizing chair. “The insights shared by our speakers were profound, and we are incredibly grateful for their contributions to the success of this event.”

Dr Yeu further noted that the event served as a fantastic platform for networking and reconnecting with alumni and industry partners.

The second coffee talk was also attended by guests from Swinburne Melbourne, including Luke Bell, Director of Advancement External Engagement, and Adalina Coelho, Manager of Alumni Engagement. Their participation underscored the bond between the two campuses and emphasized the transformative power of collaboration in industry and education.

The event allowed students to connect with accomplished alumni, enhancing their understanding of industry expectations and job market trends. Among the feedback from the participants was that the insights shared by the speakers gave clarity for career paths.

The event, moderated by Ts. Dr Chung Ping Ping, equipped students with practical advice and real-world experience as hearing the alumni’s journeys and the qualities for future success is regarded as valuable.

The FECS Alumni Coffee Talk was mooted to be a cornerstone event that nurtures connections and knowledge-sharing within the Swinburne Sarawak community. The faculty looks forward to expanding such events with more interactive sessions and workshops that will enrich the learning and networking experiences of its participants. Aiming to support the professional growth of students and alumni, future events will feature industry experts who are alumni, ensuring continuous engagement and support for the campus community.
