151 awarded scholarships by Swinburne Sarawak

KUCHING – A total of 151 Malaysian and international students pursuing a range of courses at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus were recently awarded scholarships for excelling in their studies, at a ceremony which was held on the campus.

The scholarship awards, amounting to about RM300,000, were presented by Professor Helmut Lueckenhausen, who is the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Swinburne Sarawak Campus.

In his speech, Lueckenhausen congratulated the students for their achievements. Swinburne Sarawak, he said, places strong emphasis on the quality of its courses, adding that the recent audit of Swinburne Sarawak by the Malaysian Quality Agency (MQA), which integrates the quality assurance system for public higher learning institutions and private higher educational institutions in Malaysia as well as training / skill-based providers, had been a successful one.

                “We were asked (by the MQA panelists) if they could use some of our documents as case studies for other institutions,” Lueckenhausen said.

            “The goal of the university is to make the next generation better than us,” he said, and added that the university was committed to achieving this goal.
“Your success is Swinburne’s success”, Lueckenhausen said in concluding his speech.

The scholarship awards are categorized as Entrance, Leadership and Merit. Entrance scholarships, which are awarded to new foundation and undergraduate students who had obtained good SPM and STPM results, saw a total of 50 recipients.

Seven new students, who had achieved good results and were actively involved in extra-curricular activities while in secondary school, were presented with Leadership scholarships.

A total of 94 students who scored high distinctions and distinctions in the various diploma, foundation and undergraduate courses, were awarded the Merit scholarships. Sixteen recipients of this scholarship are international students.

Also present at the ceremony were the families of the scholarship recipients, as well as the heads of schools and departments of Swinburne Sarawak Campus.
