KUCHING – The Swinburne Sarawak Young Accountants’ Club (YAC) recently embarked on an educational excursion to Wish Dairies Sdn Bhd, the manufacturer of Vill ice cream located at Demak Laut Industrial Park, to gain valuable insights on real-world industry practices and business operations.
An estimated 40 students, consisting of YAC members and committee members, took part in the excursion on 27 April 2024 under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr Fung Chorng Yuan, Head of School of Business at Swinburne Sarawak, as well as Lecturers Ms Wong Kai Lu and Ms Jacqueline Chang.
Ms Joyce Liew, accountant at Wish Dairies, and her management team welcomed the visiting group and led them on a tour of the factory. During the tour, students were briefed on the operational processes and the costing methods of the products.
The visit offered students a first-hand experience of the ice cream manufacturing industry, enhancing their understanding of manufacturing processes, cost management and financial planning. These elements are highly relevant to their degree studies in cost and management accounting.
“This trip is invaluable for us as we can see how the knowledge we have gained from textbooks is applied in reality. Such an experience will equip us better when we enter the workforce upon graduation,” said Kenn Soon Yang, YAC President.

Swinburne Sarawak offers a variety of programs under its School of Business, and one of its popular courses is the Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Finance.
To help students better understand their studies and practice, the school has set up several academic student clubs under the guidance of the lecturers – one of which is the Young Accountants’ Club.
YAC members consist mainly of students pursuing an Accounting and Finance major. The club’s main objective is to engage students with activities that could enhance their studies through educational tours and meaningful seminars and talks.
