Facilities and Services


24-Hour Study Area

  • Located in Block A, Library Study Area. Partly converted as 24-Hour Study Area after library closing hours. Closure of shutters done at 2 hours prior to library closing & students must leave the area immediately. Students can re-enter the area through a dedicated door by scanning their Swinburne ID card.

AV Room

  • Located at Library Level 1, Block A. A multi-function room used for videos & maps viewing. Students may also use the AV Room for presentations and group discussions; maximum up to 9 persons. Prior booking required. Booking request can be made at the Library Service Desk counter. Room equipment: 1 DVD Home Theatre System (DVD player, speakers & TV set) for videos viewing. 1 Projector 1 study table and 9 chairs

Computers

  • Computer workstations are available for student use at the IT Section at Block A, Level 1. To provide fair & equitable use for all users, per session is restricted to 1 hour. Use of computers restricted to study-related activities. Computers left unattended for more than 15 minutes will automatically log off.

Digital Helpdesk

  • A one-stop servicedesk located at StudentHQ, Block A, Ground Floor. You can make video calls and direct your problems and queries to the relevant units dedicated to give you real-time solution. Digital Reference Desk

  • Located at library’s lobby next to the Self-check machine. Provides brief and general information on library’ facilities and services.

Discussion Room

  • Total 15 Discussion Rooms are available for group work at Block B,Level 1. Maximum accommodation ranges from 4 – 10 people according to room size. Students can book a discussion room directly from their Student Webmail – Office 365 (http://mail.office365.com)

ERT Room

  • Located at Library Block A, next to the Audio-Video(AV) room. Provides conveniences for academicians & students to conduct training session. Open daily on weekdays and will be closed if it is booked for training session or event.

Handphone Chat Area

  • Strictly restricted for handphone users. A dedicated area in the Library for library users that need to answer/make calls on their cell phones.

Information and News Display Panel

  • Located at Block A, above the Digital Reference Desk. Displays information on new titles, library announcements and activity’s news.

Leisure Reading Area

  • A relaxing area with comfortable sofas where you can leisurely read or browse the latest newspaper & magazines/journals displayed on the magazines rack. Located at Block A, Library.

Library Webchat

  • For assistance, we provide online communication channels to support and attend to enquiries immediately. Chat with a librarian for real-time answers to your enquiries. Available during library opening hours.

Magazines Shelf

  • Display the latest educational magazines and newspapers. Located next to Library Servicedesk.

New Arrival Shelf

  • Display shelf for New Arrival books or New Titles. Located opposite the Leisure Reading Area.

OPAC Terminal

  • OPAC stands for Online Public Access Catalog. It is also known as the catalog, PAC, WebPAC, library catalog, and online catalog. OPACs generally contain records of all the items that are library catalogs, such as: books (print and/or electronic); journals (print and/or electronic); databases; maps; manuscript collections; etc. Located at library’s Quiet Zone, Block B.

Quiet Reading Room

  • Located at Block A Library, next to the printer machines. Furnished with 23 study carrels for individual quiet study.

Quiet Zone

  • Located at Block B Library. Furnished with group study tables and individual study carrels. Seating capacity of 539 including 75 study carrels. All study tables & carrels are equipped with power sockets.

RFID and Barrier Gate

  • RFID Detection Gate System series able to detect the items that have not been properly checked-out. The audible and visible alarms are automatically triggered when improperly checked-out materials are passed through the gate system. Click “Go to link” to watch tutorial video.

Self-Check Machine

  • Selfcheck System supports patron self-service for checking materials out, the system processes multiple items by discharging RFID security bit and check-outs simultaneously. During transaction, it able to show patron’s ID, name, image, total borrow book. It can also block patron from borrowing book due to fee due or the book is not for open shelf. Furnished with touch screen technology, selfcheck system provides enhanced interactive services to the patrons.

Student Leisure Area

  • Located at Block B, Ground Floor. An interactive area fitted with comfortable sofas & study tables designed for a relaxing ambience & flexible zone. Accessible via the scanning of your Swinburne ID card.
